Description

This overall project is designed to install a riparian buffer on approximately one-half mile of river bank on the lower Touchet River in Water Resource Inventory Area (WRIA) 32. Bank erosion problems on two meanders of the river have made about 400 feet of stream bank ineligible for the conventional riparian buffer program through the Walla Walla Conservation District (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program also known as CREP).

In the first phase of this project, Tri State Steelheaders will complete the design, engineering, and permit work necessary for project implementation (which will occur in a subsequent phase of the project eligible for other funding). In this first phase, there will be no construction; however with the completed plans resulting from this project, construction will occur under other funding for project completion in 2009. The first phase of this project will provide the design, engineering, and begin permitting necessary to facilitate the securing of construction funding for bank stabilization structures and a CREP buffer continuous with the upstream and downstream neighbors' CREP buffers.
